SIMPLE : Basic Health

My family is very diverse. We have one side with cancer and every ailment from A to Z and then on the other side we have the Macca powder smoothie members. Since a young age I've always been that tall skinny child who found themselves lying on the couch after school everyday , stuffing my face with chips . I was warned , one day , when you aren't happy with your body you will regret it . Guess what ? I regret it , every day . Shocker

Like any normal child I loved pigging out on a bowl of pasta dripping in pesto and butter then move onto a few tablespoons of Nutella straight out of the jar ( no one tell me you still haven't tried that ) . 10 golden years later , I have woken up . Ive come down to earth with a bang . We usually get annoyed when our parents tell us , don't eat that or watch out you'll get diabetes , but this is it , this is the one chance you have in life to rectify things and to treat your body like a temple . Your body IS a temple , it is sacred and should be kept clean and free of toxic nonsense . That's the motto I've started living by - you should think about it  .

Lets break this down into plain English - common saying ,  you are what you eat . Healthy eating isn't as difficult as it looks , cravings are temporary , you get over them believe me . I used to eat refined carbohydrates every day and then when I stopped my body went into shock mode. It grabbed everything I ate and stored it as fat . Once it had realized it wasn't getting anymore it made me feel terrible , as if to say dont stop with the junk; keep it coming , but I know this isn't what it wants, its only acting this way because its gotten into the habit of processing chemicals on a daily basis and now it has nothing to process.

Once the cravings subsided I found substitutes. Wheat free products , gluten free products and sugar free products. I started using aspartame free sweeteners and got used to them . Instead of having complex carbohydrates I would enjoy something less refined such as cous cous and even better , quinoa. This is the reality guys , its not difficult but its your willpower that will either make or break you and I promise you once you've made the switch , YOU WILL FEEL AMAZING. Your body will thank you by creating an abundance of energy , you'll look amazing ( skin etc ) , you'll start losing weight and life will be stellar .Healthy body - healthy mind .

Here are a few important ideas you need to remember when trying to make the switch to happy body state .There's nothing new and amazing in this list but you will be shocked at how many people actually don't know the following:
  • Refined carbohydrates such as rice , pasta , bread , biscuits and pastries are very bad for you.A build up of these substances will clog up your colon and intern the toxins are then not able to be released and that leads to obesity and other horrible illnesses.Think about it guys , all the preservatives ,stabilizers and man made crap cant be processed at supersonic speed because they are chemicals so its going to take much longer to flush out of your system - HENCE , disadvantages .
  • Filling your plate with vegetables of different colours is the best , but do remember orange veg are full of sugar such as butternut and carrots so bear that in mind .
  • Water is the key . Your body is predominantly water so keep it that way.
  • Sugar is not natural . White sugar is refined and thus very bad for the body . I don't care what colour it is , if its been through a machine to come out as a finished product then its unhealthy. Brown sugar has molasses in it but there's still barely any nutritional value .
  • ANYTHING REFINED IS UNHEALTHY. Margarine , oils etc all of these products have been altered from their natural state..
  • As nice as it sounds , the whole ' chocolate is healthy for you ' story , is not true . HOWEVER , Dark chocolate ( e.g Lindt 85% Dark ) is much better for you than a top deck.
  • STARVING YOURSELF DOES NOT HELP WEIGHT LOSS . Please guys , purging or starving yourself is not going to lead to long term weight loss . The minute you stop eating , your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto every little thing you eat ,storing it as fat because it doesn't know when the next meal is going to come. This will then lead to weight gain and should you continue to starve yourself your body will die at a cellular level .
  • You need to exercise with an eating plan in order to get skinny . Just eating right isn't going to do the trick because you need to burn more than you take in. I'm definitely not at my goal weight yet but im working on it !
  • The 80 , 20 rule is fantastic . Weekdays you eat well and on the weekend you treat yourself . Cool ?
Those are just a few of the basics , I'm telling you this because im sick right now . I don't often fall ill because I fortunately have educated parents but I've caught this horrid change of season flu . And yes , you may judge me , because if my immune system was strong enough i wouldn't be sick in the first place. To get better I will do the following : a) cut out all dairy products b) drink plenty water c) limit strenuous exercise d) eat only greens and e) consume copious amounts of lemon , hot water and capsicum toddy .

Guys , I know its really lame to go on about this stuff but I've met many people who don't know what to do when they're sick and I see them all gummed up eating a muffin . I enjoy advising them on what to do.
So , the next health post will be related to something I've touched on in this post . I'm quite keen on covering the whole hidden killers sort of thing , food that seems alright but when you look deeper ,contain suspect components. Stay up-to-date for that.In the meantime , read on .
